Man miraculously survives being trapped in a wood chipper

So I read this interesting article about a man whom allegidly climbed into a wood chipper machine to get something that jammed it up and while doing this somebody outside the machine turned it on. Okay the reason I want to talk about this article is because something doesnt fit right with me at all with this. The article stated that he stayed with protocall with what happens if the machine is to jam up. So if thats the case, then why in the he.. ck is there not  a master shut off to disable the machine from having anyone be able to turn it on while climbing into the machine? I mean it sounds absolutly ignorant and im in the military I know an unsafe act when I see one. The company did say they were covering his hospital bill's but personally he deserves more then that. He had probably 1 in a million chance of surviving this incident and he wasn't going out on a limb and doing this on his own. He was following the company's guidelines on what to do. They definetly need to compensate and be shut down for further unsafe act's torward its employee's until they fix the problem. And im sure if you look you will find more. Usually when something looks to good to be true when their doing something wrong it usually is and where there's one small leak there's generally leak's through out the whole thing. There's way's to do business and puting your employee's lives in danger is not one of them. This article just really made me irritated because its one of many physical labor job's that are cuting corner's on proper safety protocall's which is ultimately causing people to lose their limb's and their lives. When I was in afghanistan there was an unsafe act on a soldier whom had never been shown by the contractor's who's job it was to give the safety breif on how to properly unhook a box trailor. These so called contractor's get paid 100's of thousands of dollar's to just sit there and give safety breif's to income personel. Because they decided that day they would skip a group, Private First Class Dustin had a accident that could have been avoided. He pulled the pen to the trailer which if you do not put a block behind the tire it will roll. He had not done that because he was not given the safety breif, and as a result almost lost his whole arm. Luckily we had fast medical responder's and a great medical skin graffing and broken bone therapy hospital in germany that was able to fix him up and send him back out to us 3 months later. The main point im geting at here is there's ways to save money with a company but being cheap to give the proper safety tool's or breif's should definetly not be one of them.
